Artis Zoo did not pay ransom to criminals behind ransomware attack

Artis says it did not pay any ransom to the hackers behind the ransomware attack in June of this year. Cybercriminals breached the network of the Amsterdam zoo last month and demanded 1 million euros in cryptocurrency.

Artis engaged a cybersecurity specialist to investigate the June 28 ransomware attack. That investigation indicates that there are "no indications that the perpetrators stole or accessed (personal) data." The zoo reported this in an email to members.

The zoo had previously announced that the cybercriminals demanded one million euros in ransom in the form of cryptocurrency. Artis states that it did not comply with the attackers' request. Artis further says that it was probably not a targeted attack and that the hackers had access to the zoo's systems only for a short time. It is not yet known who is behind the ransomware attack.
