BMW plans to integrate an NFC chip into car keys. These could then be used for payments and could also serve as a hotel room key.
BMW reasons that everyone always has their car key at hand and is used to keeping an eye on it. That is why it would be a good idea to load, via an NFC (near field communication) chip, for example, a hotel room key code onto the electronic car key. A car key is probably less likely to be lost than a hotel room card.
Location of the car
BMW also believes it could be useful to load, for example, a train ticket onto the car key, allowing a BMW driver to go straight through the gates at the station. In addition, the key can store data about the condition of the car. This would enable the driver to check remotely whether the car is locked and, via GPS, determine the vehicle’s location.
