Hackers reactivate banned Twitter accounts

← Back to news

A Spanish hacker group has brought banned and deactivated Twitter accounts back to life. The group then attempted to sell several popular banned accounts. Twitter could not provide substantive comment on these reports. In the meantime, the accounts have been deactivated again.

The hackers reportedly had no malicious intent so far. It is not known which exploit was used to put banned and deactivated accounts back into use. Although security gaps have been discovered at Twitter before, the method used this time has not been disclosed. In the meantime, work is underway to close the gap on the social networking site.

Internet communities have more often been targeted by hackers. It remains fairly difficult for many organizations to develop secure software.
