The Computer Security Incident Response Team Italia warns of persistent DDoS attacks on national companies and institutions. The government body has detected an ongoing threat from Russian hacker groups.
Italian public services and private entities providing a public utility are said to be the main targets of targeted DDoS attacks, the CSIRT warns. Organizations in these categories are advised to prepare for potential cyberattacks by remediating vulnerabilities and carefully monitoring IT systems around the clock.
Although the actual attackers are not named, the threat, according to BleepingComputer, comes specifically from the pro-Russian hacker group Killnet. After the group carried out various cyberattacks in retaliation for support for Ukraine in the conflict with Russia, Anonymous Italy reportedly conducted targeted doxxing of Killnet members. In response to Anonymous Italy, the group has since announced “Operation Panopticon,” a massive DDoS campaign against Italian public services.
