A designer of Mozilla’s Firefox OS has unveiled several screenshots of the new mobile operating system. Early next year, the OS is set to debut on mobile devices.

Mozilla designer Robert Nyman has shared screenshots of the design of the forthcoming mobile operating system, Firefox OS. The overall look is not radically different from other mobile operating systems.

No dramatic innovations

The interface features a fixed dock at the bottom with common mobile functions such as the phone, browser, and photo gallery. The screenshots show no dramatic innovations, suggesting for now that Firefox OS primarily aims to keep pace with major competitors like iOS and Android.

U.S. and European carriers have voiced their support for Mozilla’s OS, which was initially known as ‘Boot to Gecko.’ The company has also secured several hardware partners, including ZTE and Alcatel. In early 2013, the first devices with the brand-new operating system are expected to go on sale in Brazil.
